General about the Laboratory
The Polymeric Materials' Laboratory, at the Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering was activated on May 2004, completely innovated and fully active since December 2004. Due to the necessity of rearrangement of lab space of our dept. moved to a newly established bulding consuming 140 square meters in which undergraduate laboratories as well as research activities of graduate students (MSc and PhD) take place. The new lab is fully active since April 2010. Director of the Laboratory is Associate Professor Dr. Ap. Avgeropoulos.
The Polymeric Materials' Laboratory has indicated increasing progress which is proved by the fact that during the first year of its activities, many undergraduate students accomplised their diploma thesis in the field of Polymer Science and Engineering. Additionally the obligatory undergraduate Laboratory (Materials Laboratory V) was accomplished during the first year of its founding.
It is worth mentioning that financial support is fullfilled by various research programs (Operational Programme for Education and Initial Vocational Training (O.P. "Education"): Pythagoras I and II, G.S.R.T.: Bilateral Cooperations, European Union Programs (FP7)), and also sponsorhips by wellknown International Chemical Companies. Also there are collaborations with International Universities and Research Centers (M.I.T., Carnegie - Mellon University, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Brookhaven National Laboratory, CNMS at OakRidge National Laboratory, Institute of Soldier Nanotechnologies/MIT), and important collaborations in Greece (University of Athens, University of Thesaloniki, University of Crete, Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)).
At the moment the research facilities of the Laboratory are:
