The research programs that finance the Polymeric Materials Laboratory, based on the collaborations of the Director of the Laboratory, Associate Prof. A. Avgeropoulos are the following:
Α). Financed by the Operational Programme for Education and Initial Vocational Training (O.P. "Education"): Pythagoras I (1/4/2004-31/12/2006) with title: “Synthesis and Theoritical Study of Dendritic Polymers”, as Scientific Director and directior of the experimental section of the proposal, total amount 60.000 €.
Β). Financed by Foreign Corporation: Dow Corning Corporation, economically managed by the Reasearch Commitee of the University of Ioannina (1/4/2004-30/9/2006) with title: “High Molecular Weight Diblock and Triblock Copolymers”, as Scientific Director, total amount 105.000 $ US (or 83.771 €).
C). Financed by the Operational Programme for Education and Initial Vocational Training (O.P. "Education"): Pythagoras II (1/4/2005-31/12/2006) with title: “Synthesis and Theoritical Study of Linear and Complex Architecture Polypeptides”, as Scientific Director, total amount 50.000 €.
D). Financed by the G.S.R.T. (General Secretariat of Research and Technology): Bilateral Cooperations, Proposal of Greece and U.S.A.). (1/11/2006-31/3/2008) with title: “Structure Formation and Structure-Property Relations in Self-Organized Block Copolymer/Nanoparticle Composite Materials”, as Scientific Director, total amount 60.000 € (in collaboration with the Carnegie-Mellon Univeristy, Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering, Assistant Prof. M. Bockstaller).
Ε). Financed by the European Union Call (identifier: FP7-NMP-2007-LARGE-1 with program code Proposal No: CP-IP 213939-1 POCO), with title: “Carbon Nanotube Confinement Strategies to Develop Novel Polymer Matrix Composites” with short name “POCO”, as director of the Greek Partitipation, total amount 340.200 € (18 partitipators, total amount required by the E.U.: 5.524.450 €, Director J. Barriga - PhD, TEKNIKER, Vittoria, Spain)
F). Financed by the European Union (Call identifier: FP7-NMP-2009-SMALL-3 with program code Proposal No: CP-FP 245565-2 LAMAND) with title: “Large Area Molecularly Assembled Nanopatterns for Devices” with short name “LAMAND”, as director of the Greek Partitipation, total amount 333.514 € (9 partitipators, total amount required by the E.U.: 3.463.000 €, Director M. Morris - PhD, University College Cork, National University of Ireland, Cork, Ireland)
G). Financed by the Periphery of Epirus under the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) Call 2007-2013, Proposal for Research & Development, (36 months, 1/7/2011-30/6/2014), title: “Development of New Materials for Immediate Use in Biological Wastewater Treatment and on Land Disposal of Solid Waste”, total budget: 150.000 €.
H). Financed by the Periphery of Epirus. Funding of 2,000,000 Euros (after evaluation of competitive proposals, 45 in total, from major Laboratories) from the Greek Government and the European Union under the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) Call 2007-2013 for the Periphery of Epirus for the establishment of an Advanced Electron Microscopy Facility at the University of Ioannina, comprising of a HR-TEM and a Low-Vacuum SEM. It is the largest funding given in the University of Ioannina for the establishment of such advanced equipment which is considered among the best in Eastern Europe and will be fully established by 31/12/2011 in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, University of Ioannina.
Ι). Financed by the Greek Government, financial programm "Herakleitos ΙΙ - Support of research staff for doctoral research" of the Research Programm "Education and Life Education" with title, "Synthesis and characterization of novel nanohybrid materials via the use of nanoparticles and triblock terpolymers", with total budget 45000 €. Starting date 1/9/2010.
